Being Puerto Rican is
more than just being born in Puerto Rico. Did you know that according to studies, humans would be more genetically perfect if they were Puerto Rican. Throughout history we have all genotypes including African, Americans, Asians
and Europeans. Being Puerto Rican is a pleasure to be part of and been in the
Island of Enchantment is a privilege we are born with. No matter how small we
are in comparison with countries or continents, we know that we are blessed
with one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole world. Being Puerto Rican is to
live proud of our homeland.
I could probably tell
you that being Puerto Rican is clapping when a plane lands, celebrate every
single historical event even if it doesn’t have to do anything with our history
as well, end up at the supermarket when a tropical storm is coming, and accelerating
the car in the yellow lights. That’s just things that we all have in common. It
doesn’t matter how small we look on a map; we have Olympics medals, famous
artists in Hollywood and we are always recognized. Not only for our achievements
on sports or fine arts, but also by our traditional foods as “arroz con
gandules”, “pasteles”, “longaniza”,” bacalaito”, “alcapurria”, and last but not
least “tembleque”. Not to mention that Puerto Rican women had been proclaimed
the most beautiful on beauty contests like Miss Universe.
However our island is called the Island of Enchantment because of the beauty and flavor it contains inside. All the places we have to visit in here like rainforests, rivers, hot springs, desert, beaches, mountains, countryside and the city are all unique. For me being Puerto Rican is to be proud of our culture, our history, and never forgetting where we come from.
