Carl Gustav Jung : Memories, Dreams, and Reflections

Would you imagine someone analyzing the human mind, psyche and the unconscious, as well as the conscious components of the mind? Carl Jung did. The Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung was born on July 26, 1875. Jung was the son of a pastor in the Swiss Reformed Church and went to Basel University in 1895 to study medicine, and student life. He advanced the idea of introvert and extrovert personalities and the power of the unconscious. It is thought that man's behavior and his conscious states can be explained only by unconscious sources of motivation stated by a Psychology Campus that’s studied his work deeply. He collaborated with Sigmund Freud, but disagreed with him about the sexual basis of neuroses.

The Psychologist, Inventor, Psychiatrist and Journalist undertook the telling of his life story on his book “Memories, Dreams, and Reflections”. Jung’s autobiography book especially the chapter 9,Travels, speaks about his encounters with different countries such as Arabian North Africa and the journey to Native American territory. Within this chapter he talks a lot about the different cultures, and his individual and internal journey. He immediately recognizes how much has changed and what his travels has made him see about the women world but equally access to the men’s at depths from which women are typically barred. He usually talks about male friendships that include what Europeans perceive as homosexual behaviors.

This book was written almost 30 years after these travels had taken place and published after his death. Because of the difference in years between of the travels and the publishment of the book, a lot of people think that the events are slightly exaggerated. I personally can’t remember 10 years back exacts memories so imagine someone attempting to remember 30 years back. For what I can see Jung wanted to explore a part of himself that was "unknown" and that’s a mystery that we all want to experience. Traveling helps to expand boundaries and experiences and make things happen. Immersing ourselves too much into a country, its people and the culture when we travel is something normal and nothing to be ashamed but the problem comes when you are not so sure at what was happening or if you are becoming something or someone that you aren't as he mentions. This is the kind of influence our dreams and our experiences have upon us.

What Being Puerto Rican Means

Being Puerto Rican is more than just being born in Puerto Rico. Did you know that according to studies, humans would be more genetically perfect if they were Puerto Rican. Throughout history we have all genotypes including African, Americans, Asians and Europeans. Being Puerto Rican is a pleasure to be part of and been in the Island of Enchantment is a privilege we are born with. No matter how small we are in comparison with countries or continents, we know that we are blessed with one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole world. Being Puerto Rican is to live proud of our homeland.

I could probably tell you that being Puerto Rican is clapping when a plane lands, celebrate every single historical event even if it doesn’t have to do anything with our history as well, end up at the supermarket when a tropical storm is coming, and accelerating the car in the yellow lights. That’s just things that we all have in common. It doesn’t matter how small we look on a map; we have Olympics medals, famous artists in Hollywood and we are always recognized. Not only for our achievements on sports or fine arts, but also by our traditional foods as “arroz con gandules”, “pasteles”, “longaniza”,” bacalaito”, “alcapurria”, and last but not least “tembleque”. Not to mention that Puerto Rican women had been proclaimed the most beautiful on beauty contests like Miss Universe.

However our island is called the Island of Enchantment because of the beauty and flavor it contains inside. All the places we have to visit in here like rainforests, rivers, hot springs, desert, beaches, mountains, countryside and the city are all unique. For me being Puerto Rican is to be proud of our culture, our history, and never forgetting where we come from.

Me All Over

My name is Alfredo Paredes Santiago and I was born on May 6, 1996. I am currently 19 years old and I’m the smallest on my family. I have a sibling, my sister, Coralyz that is three years older than me. In our family there is a tradition that every boy of each marriage be named Alfredo so I’m a victim of this. It isn’t that I don’t like the name, but every time someone on my family says Alfredo no body knows which one is it.

However I have four cousins, two male and two female. All of them are aiming for med school and now it has become a family competition. Every time we get together on a family celebration activity they talk about the goals each and every one has and personally I’m not sure if I want to study medicine but at least ill study something related. I’m on Natural Sciences so I’m on the right track, but I have to admit it’s a very competitive department in which you have to read a lot. It isn’t that bad, you just have to be focused because on the campus there are a lot of distractions. I am a person who get’s easily distracted by anything so concentration isn’t my strength.

In the other hand, a positive distraction I do to release stress from the equation is weightlifting. This and Yoga are therapeutic and completely opposite vibes which helps me stay in balance. More over, going to natural open places such as the beach, rivers or mountain climbing helps me connect with my inner me and gives me a unique relaxation. Another important detail about me is that I’m vegetarian, people always ask me why. I simply replay because I know from where the meat comes from, that’s enough. I believe on no GMO foods for everyone as well as no chemicals added to increase weight or size of a animal or crop. Organic foods are all I eat. Also I’m an animal lover so I’ll stand out to defend animals always and I love to travel. I hope I can go travel the whole world one day.
